30th Anniversary Of Madonna's Record Breaking Release Of "True Blue"
Madonna shows the world that she is no temporary Pop Princess with her third album "True Blue". As a true Queen would rule her reign, Madonna had a part in every aspect of building this Masterpiece. Having a helping hand in the song writing and production process, plus a very successful two years behind her, seemed to give Madonna a huge boost in confidence, sounding stronger than ever. Boasting an amazing three number one singles and another two in the top five, this album would go on to be the best selling album of the 80's by a female artist. To here more on this Queen's collection of keen selection, carry on.....
The first track on "True Blue" was the ever controversial, and beloved, "Papa Don't Preach", the albums second single. Madonna sings in proud desperation the story of a young lady seeking her fathers blessings to have a child conceived out of wed lock, as apposed to having an abortion. Despite it's subject matter, this hot topic hit shot to the number one spot on the charts. Aside from some slightly anxious strings, the song plays rather upbeat, even making it onto the top of the dance charts. The albums second song "Open Your Heart" was another number one hit for Madonna when it was released as the fourth single. Although not controversial lyrically, the video raised a few eyebrows. If you havn't seen it already, here it is...
Following those two mega hits is not an easy task, so she enlists a little help from tough guy James Cagney, who opens the third song with a quote from his 1949 movie and song namesake "White Heat". It follows the dance heavy Pop path the first two songs paved. The album finally gets a breather on the fourth track, with it's first single "Live To Tell", another number one for Madonna. This slow burning power ballad was also the theme song to her husband at the time Sean Penn's film "At Close Range". It was then, and still is one of her most enthralling ballads.
The albums next track wastes no time getting things back on track, "Where's The Party" is perhaps the albums most playful track. An ode to the weekend, and all the fun it can bring. This dance party leads to the next in line for most playful, only in more of a slow dance kind of way. The albums title track, and third single almost made it to number one on the charts, coming in at number three. It is beyond adorable.
The fifth single to be released from album follows, "La Isla Bonita" would fall just behind "True Blue" on the charts, coming in at number four. The song has however lived on to be one of Madonna's most legendary, with it's Latin influences, this tropical love song showed the world this small town Michigan girl could do just about anything. The eighth song "Jimmy, Jimmy" is a through back to the bad boy loving good girls of the 50's & 60's. It's vintage sound, well it's as vintage sounding as 80's synthesizers could get, was a perfect match for the albums title track, which also blended retro girl group structures in with modern technologies. The album ends with what was intended to be it's first single
"Love Makes the World Go Round", an inspiring Pop song about world peace that she performed at Live Aid the year prior. It is a great and positive way to leave off a great and positive album.
Madonna is not only the reigning Queen Of Pop, she is this year a celebrated 3 Decade Diva on The Queens Collective. This means the Queen has released music to world all three decades of her career, to the anniversary of this year. From 1886's "True Blue", to 1996's "Evita", to 2006's "Confessions On A Dance Floor" singles, Madonna hasn't stopped since she started, and if she gifts us with a recording this year, she will an incredible 4 Decade Diva.
