1986: Patti LaBelle Releases Platinum Selling Album "Winner In You"

Patti LaBelle's "Winner In You" Celebrates it's 30th Anniversary, Topping The Charts All Year In 1986!

Patti LaBelle releases "Winner In You" after a string of solo successes, and it is a winner! Not only does the album itself climb to the number one spot on the charts, it boasts two of Patti's highest charting singles, the internationally acclaimed Michael McDonald duet "On My Own", and the inspiring "Oh, People". The album would also see two more singles released, "Kiss Away The Pain" and "Something Special (Is Gonna Happen Tonight)", keeping a healthy heaping of Patti on the pile all year long! The album is a great mix of heart felt power ballads, and epic 80's flavored jams, please continue to hear some of my favorites!

The inspiring title track is perhaps the albums finest moment, it's a perfect example of the power and control that Patti LaBelle has on her finest instrument, her voice. This song goes beyond uplifting, her voice soaring to great heights, while delivering a heartfelt ode to believing in yourself. If ever you are feeling down on your luck, put this on, and let Patti help you find the "Winner In You".

Half of the albums tracks are similarly booming ballads. Aside from "Winner In You", radio gem "Kiss Away The Pain" and the mega smash "On My Own", the album has two other Patti Power ballads, "Finally We're Back Together" and "Sleep With Me Tonight". The other half of the album is dedicated to energized 80's pop. Two of her singles showcase this side, the infectious "Oh, People", and the R&B jam "Something Special (Is Gonna Happen Tonight)". One of the things that makes this album so winning, is the constant theme of inspiration. Similar in theme to the title track, "Oh, People" delivers it's message with a beat sure to make to your head bob, and your hips shake. If you don't know it already, check it out!

The remaining three album tracks, "Beat My Heart Like a Drum", "You're Mine Tonight" and "Twisted" are explosions of dance floor dynamite. Pure 80's energy, there is nothing else like it! Check out "You're Mine Tonight" if you are ready to get down!

Patti Labelle is a what i will be referring to on my blog as a 5 Decade Diva, meaning her awe-inspiring voice has graced the world on a recording for 5 decades in a row, to the anniversary of this year. That is an incredible accolade many other artists cannot account for. If Patti LaBelle releases music of some sort in 2016, following her contributions to from 2006, 1996, 1986, 1976, & 1966, she will be bumped to a 6 Decade Diva. In closing, a live version of "Winner In You". Although this video was recorded in1987, it is technically off her 1986 album, so we will make an acception.
